The AP reports that Arkansans for Compassionate Care reported this week that it raised almost $420,000 in October for its campaign to legalize medical marijuana. The group spent about $406,000 during the month and had less than $17,000 cash on hand. The group has raised more than $708,000 overall for its campaign.
The two groups opposing the initiative raised much less. The Family Council Action Committee raised nearly $37,000 last month and spent more than $30,000. The Coalition to Preserve Arkansas Values raised $9,000 and spent $9,000.
Despite outspending opponents almost ten-to-one, the Arkansas measure faces an uphill battle. The latest Talk Business poll shows Issue 5 with majority opposition at 54%, with support only at 38% and 8% undecided.
