Beth Harwell, a Republican candidate for governor in Tennessee, is touting her support, along with President Trump’s, for medical marijuana in a campaign ad just released. [HARWELL CLIP: “I am the only Republican candidate for governor who supports legalizing doctor-prescribed medical cannabis. Many suffer. Veterans, children with seizures, cancer patients, our elderly. I just know if it were my loved one I would want this option. President Trump agrees. (TRUMP: I think medical should happen, right? Don’t we agree?) Opioids must not be our only option for those in pain. Vote for me, Beth Harwell for Governor, so doctor-prescribed medical cannabis can help our loved ones.”] Harwell came out in support of medical cannabis earlier this year, revealing that it helped her sister deal with the pain of a back injury. The primary election will be held on August 2. Most polls show Harwell trailing Congresswoman Diane Black and former economic and community development commissioner Randy Boyd. The two candidates oppose marijuana law reform.
