Just like a typical man. I brag that I can get it up and the next thing you know, it goes down and I can’t get it up again.
My website, I mean. Seems that my webhost ValueWeb, messed something up in the transition from my old server to my new server and their DNS entries were incorrect. I called ValueWeb on Friday trying to solve this problem, I called ValueWeb multiple times on Saturday to fix this problem, I called ValueWeb on Sunday to fix this problem, and I called ValueWeb today to fix this problem, and finally, after speaking to what must have been six different techs at ValueWeb, my site is up.
This of course was very distressing to me, because of Sunday I did my first solo-hosting of the ORNORML Presents: A Cannabis Community Forum live call-in show on Multnomah Community Television (public access cable TV here in Portland). During the show I point out all of the wonderful links and information that can be found at RadicalRuss.net, only to have no RadicalRuss.net show up on anyone’s browser.
Keep in mind that this problem originally cropped up because of my need to upgrade my account. My original account was a Standard account, with 5GB storage and 10GB bandwidth. In July I exceeded my bandwidth, and they charge me $0.04/MB for that, which came up to $64, on top of my regular hosting fees.
The account I upgraded to, the Business account, gives me 5GB storage and 100GB bandwidth. It costs me $1 more per month. The Standard account I belonged to doesn’t even exist anymore, but they keep the legacy accounts alive on an old server, because they can’t upgrade my account without my permission. So this means ValueWeb believed I would rather keep my old account and get charged an extra $64 than instead be informed my current account has been fazed out and I could upgrade to an account ten times better for just $1.
ValueWeb has been polite and helpful, just technically incompetent and marketing inept. They did waive my August overages (another $67) and are granting me one month’s credit ($25) on my hosting fees.
But I promised ValueWeb that if they didn’t have the site up by the time I went live on TV on Sunday that I would be searching for another provider. So I am. Any suggestions? I need at least 5GB storage, 100GB bandwidth, 50 e-mail addresses, unlimited forwards, FTP support, and MySQL server support.
