FOXSports.com – More Sports- Schwarzenegger calls for steroid crackdown: COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Saturday he has urged bodybuilding officials to crack down on steroid use and suggested calling a summit of the sport’s leaders to discuss the problem.
Schwarzenegger, who admits using steroids on the way to seven Mr. Olympia titles, also said he would put pressure on two bodybuilding magazines where he is executive editor to become involved in the effort.
Gee, Governor, if they had cracked down on steroids back in the 1970’s like you suggest, you would not have had the muscle-mass to become Mr. Olympia. You would not have become the bodybuilding superstar known as the “Austrian Oak”. You would not have gained the attention of a director looking to cast a hunk for “Hercules in New York”. You would not have gone on to star in the “Conan” movies and become a worldwide box-office phenomenon. You would not have immigrated to the US and adopted a conservative Republican political philosophy. You would not have parlayed your fame into a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the California governorship under a partisan Republican recall effort. Then you could bitch all you want about steroids and no one would give a damn because you’d be a retired old bodybuilder running some decrepit gym in Austria.
Typical Republicanism. “Hey, kids, I used steroids and look where it got me! Don’t do steroids!” It’s as bad as a president who smoked pot and snorted coke telling us we shouldn’t do drugs (why, because we might become president?) Why is it that these politicians were free to experiment with putting substances in their body and learning from their mistakes, but we don’t get the same consideration?
