AMERICAblog: Because a great nation deserves the truth
John Avarosis at AMERICAblog has done a great job covering the Jeff Gannon scandal. Now he and DailyKos shine a light on the Religious Reich’s new ad campaign in service of the looting of the Treasury for the rich Wall Street fat-cats Social Security reform plan. Seems the neo-cons want to peel away about 1,000,000 AARP members in order to weaken that group’s opposition to Bush’s gambling with grandpa’s retirement privatization plan. The plan? Use the tried-and-true method of gay-bashing to divide the AARP membership. From John’s blog:
Gay-bashing used to promote Bush’s social security plan
by John in DC – 2/21/2005 06:07:00 PMIsn’t that special? Bush’s allies in the social security battle are using gay-bashing to help promote the president’s plan. Where is our wonderful pro-gay-hooker president on this issue? Does Bush think gay-bashing is an appropriate way to push his social security plan? What does Vice President Cheney think of bashing his daughter Mary in order to promote the president’s plan? And what does Ken “I’m afraid to say on the record that I’m heterosexual” Mehlman have to say about this?
And last, but not least: Jeff, still think these guys love you?
Here’s the ad (seriously) that was running on the American Spectator site, and clicking it would take you to the anti-AARP (USA Next, a group that considers itself the “right” alternative to AARP) website that is backed by the same folks that brought you the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ads:
You didn’t know that the AARP hates the military and loves gay marriage, did you? American Spectator has since removed the ad from its homepage. USA Next makes no effort to explain how the AARP hates the military and loves gay marriage. Note to the Democrats: See what happens when you don’t take a principled stand for gay rights? Like the Super Nanny would tell you, you are rewarding this naughty child’s behavior by not using consistent punishment. They will keep gay bashing because it keeps working and no one stands up to it. Note to AARP members: See what happens when you put your trust in the Bush Administration when they ask for your support of their giveaway of taxpayer money to Big Pharma Medicare Prescription Drug Plan? They got what they needed from you and are now discarding you when you’re inconvenient.
So another blogger put together this cute response:
So now DailyKos and AMERICAblog are having a little contest to design new Bush Agenda ads. Here’s my contribution:
