Well, once again it is time for all us atheists, agnostics, pagans, heathens, secular humanists, and otherwise non-deistic types to gather together in our celebration of rational thought known as the Carnival of the Godless. We’ve collected writings from some of the best godless thinkers out there and reviewed them here for your entertainment and educational purposes.
If you’re new to the Radical Writ, feel free to look around. I’ve been blogging on topics as diverse as atheism, drug legalization, liberal politics, professional sports, gay rights, and popular culture for almost two years now. For the best of my godless posts, check the “Modern Mythology” menu in the sidebar on your right.
My latest godless post comes in the form of a poem. I was sent a piece of spam from Judge Roy Moore, the former Alabama Supreme Court justice who is now fighting for the display of his two-ton Ten Commandments monument in the state courthouse. Moore’s poem details how America is due to lose God’s blessing because of our abortionists, drug addicts, and our “godless judges” who dare to interpret earthly law over God’s law. My poem rebuts Judge Moore’s by showing how disappointed our Founding Fathers would be at the modern Christians who seek to destroy the separation of church and state.
Peter Fredson over at A Divided Nation illustrates the gulf between half the nation that adores and supports George W. Bush, and the other half who still have some measure of intelligence and morality. He points out the glaring hypocrisy of the party in power when he writes
“Republicans talk about castigating “activist judges” and are willing to give the many Christian organizations full reign in imposing their slogans, icons and monuments on the nation. They seem willing to change the constitution to suit Biblical exhortations, in return for cash and votes. When pressed on any issue regarding national economy, they introduce distractions for the uneducated masses regarding gays and display of mammary tissue. They are unwilling to provide much help for their homeless and desperately ill populations and yet will disrupt senate and legal proceedings for the benefit of one brain-damaged person in order to please their “culture of life” clientele. Their “Culture of Life” philosophy seems to disappear when they are killing Muslims in Fallujah, and any other place where they want hegemony or oil.”
Peter has a whole lot more to say on godless issues, but he seems to have the idea that every single post requires its own blog (see his bloglist here. Hey, being and intelligent writer on godless issues doesn’t automatically mean you know all about running Blogger…
Agitprop at http://agitprop.typepad.com takes roll call for the Holy Warriors of the Christian Right. Leading the charge toward the self-fulfilling prophecy of The Rapture is Randall Terry, the founder of Operation Rescue, supporter of terrorism against abortion clinics, and lately the spokesman for the Schindler Family in the recent Terri Schiavo fiasco. Agitprop also gives agitated props to actual soldiers, General William “My God’s Bigger Than Your God!” Boykin and Lt. Col. Gareth “They’re insurgents for Satan!” Brandl.
Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, on his belief in Christian theocracy:
“I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good . . . Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called by God to conquer this country. We don’t want equal time. We don’t want pluralism. Our goal must be simple. We must have a Christian nation built on God’s law, on the ten Commandments. No apologies.”

I’m still waiting for more submissions. My week falls between the regular two-week rotation, because I requested this time slot when the Carnival used to be an every-week event. As more submissions come in, I’ll update this post.
