Tomorrow my wife Iva turns 37. When I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said, “to not be broke.” She’s really trying to tell me to not buy her anything, lest we spend the rest of the month subsisting on Top Ramen. But I know better. You can’t let your wife’s birthday pass without getting her a present!
I don’t know what to get her. The things she really wants and needs would make us pretty broke (tandem bike, laptop computer, new wedding ring, Chrysler Sebring Convertible). I know what she doesn’t want – lame football-related junk (like, say, a Chargers T-shirt or something).
Tonight I’ll get the chance to go out shopping and we’ll just see what happens.
