I’m wondering why we hear all the fuss over Madonna kissing Britney. Oh, I know why we’re fussing over that – hot girl on girl action and all – and I’m a leading proponent that hot girls should be free to kiss other hot girls and I should get to watch.
But why no similar fuss over Madonna kissing Christina Aguilera? In the dance sequence, Madonna is dressed as a groom, and both Britney and Christina are dressed as brides. Madonna reaches down to lift Britney’s lips to hers, a slight bit of tongue-action is seen. MTV switches to a shot of Justin Timberlake (Britney’s ex-) reacting, then back to Madonna who is now performing the same choreography with Christina Aguilera.
I think the pan to Justin blew the scene. We were supposed to see Madonna kiss Britney, then Christina. Maybe we’d be talking about staged lesbian threesomes, not just Madonna and Britney.
Maybe it’s because Britney is the heir apparent to Madonna’s “Queen of Pop” crown, and this was a symbolic passing of the torch. Or maybe it’s because Christina already has the stigma of “dirrty” girl, and what with the facial piercings, we already suspect she’s into girls. Or maybe it’s racial – the Hispanic girl doesn’t get the ink the two white girls get.
I’m not quite sure, so I’m going to dedicate some more research to the topic. I’ve got a clip of the kiss, which I will rewind and watch a few more times at 60-percent slo-mo. Hmm, I wonder what other sources of research I could find if I typed “hot girl-on-girl action” into Google… Good god!
