Well, today was Raich Action Day, so my wife and I drove downtown to 6th & Main to the Portland offices of Rep. David Wu. He wasn’t in, but I got to speak with a couple of his staffers, and they were very helpful and receptive. I believe Rep. Wu is on our side in these issues, and I’m hoping we get his support on the Hinchey-Rohrabacher Amendment and States’ Rights to Medical Marijuana.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get any of my friends or contacts from Washington, Columbia, Yamhill, or Clatsop counties to join us in our demonstration. They all were with me in spirit, but they’ve got those pesky day jobs to attend to. Nevertheless, I made a big 35″x23″ sign asking people to Support States’ Rights and Protect Oregon Medical Marijuana patients, and handed out thirty fliers giving them information on the H-R amendment and the number for the Capitol switchboard. Most people were very receptive to my demonstration of two (me and my wife).
I did get the card of Rep. Wu’s main representative who “handles these issues”, according to Wu’s staff. Feel free to e-mail, write, or call her to let her know you want Rep. Wu’s support on these critical issues. Like Justice Stevens said, it is up to the Congress to address the medical marijuana issue:

Meanwhile, Madeleine Martinez, Executive Director of Oregon NORML was at the offices of Rep. Blumenauer, and later reported to me that meetings were taking place with Attorney General Hardy Myers and the directors of Oregon’s Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP), to discuss what effect the Raich ruling will have on the OMMP, and how the OMMP will proceed.
We are demanding that the OMMP resume issuance of new OMMP cards to qualified patients. If we do not get word of active reinstatement of the program by end of business Friday, we are organizing a demonstration for Noon, Monday, June 13th. I don’t know exactly where yet; keep watching this space for more details after I get a chance to confer with Madeleine.
