Most of the rest of the blogosphere have done a pretty decent job at shooting down the “60 Minutes Memos are forgeries” idea. See the link to DailyKos above which compiles most of the reasoning.
What I’m enjoying, though, is that this subject is consuming all of the oxygen in the room, which keeps bringing us back to Bush’s service record during Vietnam. Notice how no one in the Bush camp is saying anything about the substance of the memos: that Bush was a Fortunate Son who got special favors to get in the Guard, disobeyed a direct order to take a physical which would have maintained his flight status (and possibly detected some cocaine in the urine), and can’t account for over a year of his status in the National Guard.
But I had to throw my own two cents in, especially because I’m a certified expert in Microsoft Word and I could tell at first sight that Word did not produce those memos. You can see my theory by viewing this .PDF, where I’ve compared my own Word-produced version next to the 60 Minutes .PDF originals.
