Is Tom Tomorrow cribbing from the Radical Writ? After Radley Balko called me out I tried to re-explain to the righties why Jeff Gannon was a big deal. My final paragraph read:
Nothing to see here folks, just a bunch of hypocritical lefties overreacting to the White House having ties to gay male prostitution. Move along. No story here. Anybody can get a day pass, let’s keep it moving folks. Nothing to see here. GOP front websites are perfectly legit news organizations, let’s keep it moving. We love gay male hookers, so long as they don’t try to get married. Move along. Hey, the Michael Jackson trial is starting soon, isn’t it? Nothing to see here, folks.
So today, in the opening panel of his cartoon, it reads:
NOTHING TO SEE HERE
MOVE ALONG,
MOVE ALONG
Naw, it can’t be. It’s an easy enough throwaway line to come up with, and great minds do think alike and all that. Of course, when the scandal first broke, I had written:
In a recent CNN interview, Jimmy/Jeff is now whining that he made mistakes in his past and wonders if reporter’s private lives are now “fair game”. Private lives? Jimmy/Jeff, you posted photos soliciting yourself for gay sex on the internet! They call it the “world wide web”; it’s the very antithesis of “private”. “Private” would be something like, oh, I don’t know, receiving consensual oral sex from an adult female intern in your own closed office space.
And then in Tom Tomorrow’s fifth panel, he writes:
“It’s outrageous — the way these bloggers violated his privacy, I mean!”
“It’s getting so a man can’t even post naked pictures of himself on the internet anymore!”
No, I didn’t invent the idea that the internet is the opposite of private, and it’s good to see my ideas in such a perfect cartoon form. Tom even sums up Radley Balko’s and Ann Coulter’s attacks in the final panel:
There’s only one explanation for the liberal obsession with this story — “– they hate gay people! Left wing intolerance is the only real scandal here!”
Great work, Tom. Everybody go check out his blog and cartoons whenever you can.
