In Idaho, pot is more dangerous to children than a loaded gun

How tragically absurd. If your child has access to a lethal machine that kills someone, it’s just an accident. If your child has access to a non-lethal plant that heals someone, it’s child endangerment

Illinois House passes most-restrictive medical marijuana bill

The Illinois House just voted 61-57 to pass the nation’s strictest medical marijuana bill, which would make Illinois the nineteenth state to legalize the use of limited amounts of marijuana under strict medical conditions.

Further into the Box Canyon: The Cruelty of Medical Marijuana Politics

Continuing to fight a medical-only fight for marijuana is only going to produce more restrictive, less effective medical marijuana laws. At every successive state, there will be some group of patients who will be left behind to secure marijuana rights for a dwindling group of the most severely ill and disabled.

Kevin Sabet Lies to Alaska about Marijuana

Kevin Sabet is at it again. This time, he unloaded his lies, half-truths, misdirections, and obfuscations to the Alaska Dispatch. I’ve harvested his freshest Reefer Madness for a brief debunking:

The Idiocy of Busting Small Dispensaries in Washington State

To summarize, the Longview Police spent an unknown amount of man-hours investigating and setting-up people who had well below the legal plant limit for a collective, well below the marijuana limit for a collective, because they were selling marijuana, an activity that will be legal next year and is somewhat legal now for medical users, to people who would smoke and possess it, which is legal right now.

State Medical Marijuana Registries Debunk “90% Get a Card for Pain” Talking Point

Patients that have cancer, glaucoma or HIV/AIDS in Oregon represent 6.7% of all patients or 4.6% of all conditions. But certainly, having those conditions could also result in some pain. So how many of these patients are qualifying only for pain, in absence of any other condition?

Legalization among plethora of marijuana bills at Oregon Legislature

Bills to modify regulations for the Oregon medical marijuana program, add post-traumatic stress disorder to the qualifying conditions list, and legalize marijuana for recreational use have all been filed in the Oregon Legislature.

Kevin Sabet: Medical marijuana advocates “pretending to have compassion for the sick and dying”

Speaking on behalf of Project SAM, or Smart Approaches to Marijuana, Dr. Kevin Sabet explained that advocates for medical marijuana legalization are “putting on white coats and pretending to have compassion for the sick and dying.”

Oklahoma senate committee rejects medical marijuana in first-ever hearing

Jeremy Echols tells his story as a father who found medical cannabis to be an effective treatment for his son Alex, who suffers from severe autism rage.

A Response to Kevin Sabet’s ‘A Response to Steven Chapman’s ‘The War On Pot: Not a Safe Bet”

Kevin’s latest propaganda campaign is called Project SAM – Smart Approaches to Marijuana. (The campaign to legalize marijuana in Colorado was “Smart Colorado”. The other campaign was “New Approach Washington”. Smoking weed makes you more creative, I guess.)

SAM tried to make us go to rehab. We said no, no, no.

This morning at 6am I launched SmartApproaches.com. It is a page-for-page satire of the website LearnAboutSAM.com, which was recently mentioned in various news media as the front page for Project SAM. It uses actual policy positions and rhetorical claims from Project SAM and peppers them with copious amounts of snark, studies, sarcasm, and science. And fake evil-Spock goatees.

Dr. Kevin Sabet, David Frum, & Patrick J. Kennedy form SAM I Am

Basically, this is Kevin Sabet’s game plan writ large. Sabet wants to paint the “War on Drugs” on one side and the “Legalizers” on the other side and proclaim them both to be irrational extremes, and only SAM I Am will have the rational, middle ground approach.

Oregon Sen. Doug Whitsett’s Reefer Madness Debunked

To open the New Year, I was presented with a bouquet of reefer madness so pungent it compelled me to write it up three days before the end of my vacation. Oregon State Senator Doug Whitsett wrote “Marijuana: more potent now and unquestionably addictive” in the Oregon Catalyst. I retort and debunk.

Kids find pot less risky than ever… but they’re not smoking more of it

The latest Monitoring the Future survey is out. Like any collection of statistics about marijuana, the drug warriors will spin them to advance the agenda of drug-testing, discriminating against, locking up, and re-educating adults who choose marijuana over martinis, Marlboros, Midol, or morphine.
