Let it be said that this last weekend has been the worst football weekend ever.
No, it’s not just that my beloved Twelve Time World Champion Green Bay Packers were trampled 17-3 at the Silverdome by the Lions. It’s that they couldn’t score a touchdown for the first time since the year 2000, a 77-game streak, longest active streak in the NFL; it’s that they couldn’t score a touchdown against an average defense. It’s that they had three turnovers and 14 penalties for 100 yards and botched a field goal. It’s going to be a long season.
It’s also the worst football weekend ever because my beloved Boise State Broncos blew a 10 point lead and lost on a last-minute field goal in Corvallis to the Oregon State Beavers, 30-27. After being undefeated in the regular season last year, BSU is now 0-2.
But then, hey, at least I could root for my friends’ teams, right? Wrong! Ralph’s Raiders lost the Thursday Night Opener, 30-20. Karri’s Jets lost 27-7. Rod’s Seahawks lost 26-14. Djuengoe’s Bears lost, 9-7. Marci’s Titans lost, 34-7. Monty’s Vikings lost, 24-13. Michelle & Darrin’s Broncos lost, 34-10. My wife’s Chargers lost, 28-24. In fact, the only friend of mine whose team won Sunday was Scott’s 49’ers, the worst team in the league last year, who won 28-25.
On top of all that, my fantasy football team, the Cascadia High Rollers, got beat 77-50. I managed the team OK – shoulda started QB Roethlisberger (16pts) over QB Brees (12pts) and K Hall (11pts) over K Akers (5pts). So I would’ve lost with 60 points instead of 50. Next week, I’ll even make sure my final W/R position is filled (didn’t make a difference this time, my benched WR’s and RB’s all got 0).
Better luck next week! (Couldn’t be much worse…)
