The vote on Hinchey-Rohrabacher is expected to take place tomorrow! It is an amendment to an appropriations bill (how the gov’t spends money) that would forbid the use of taxpayer’s money to fund DEA raids on legal medical marijuana patients in the ten medical marijuana states.
Representative David Wu needs to change his vote on this. In 2003 & 2004 he voted NO on this amendment. His vote means that he thinks it is OK FOR THE DEA TO RAID, ARREST, & JAIL MEDICAL MARIJUANA PATIENTS!. Tell him that we expect him to protect Oregon’s seriously ill and disabled people who legally use marijuana under state law. Tell him we expect him to support the will of the voters who overwhelmingly approve of medical marijuana.
Call Rep. Wu RIGHT NOW! If you live in Washington, Columbia, Clatsop, or Yamhill Counties (Oregon), he is YOUR federal representative. A phone call is so easy. Stand up for your rights! Use this contact information for his Washington, DC office:
(202) 225-0855
Remember, that’s on East Coast time, so out here in Oregon, you can call his office as early as 6:00AM our time. Do it before you head off in that morning commute, or do it during your morning commute if you have a cell phone (please use a headset!)
It can be scary to call a Congressman’s office, but trust me, it’s really easy and the people who answer the phones are very polite and friendly. If you can’t think of something to say, use this little script below:
Hi, my name is (your name), and I am a constituent from (your city). I’m calling to encourage Representative Wu to SUPPORT the Hinchey-Rohrabacher Amendment today. I’m upset that Representative Wu voted against this measure the last two times. I think he should stand up and support and protect Oregon’s medical marijuana patients from federal prosecution. Thank you.
Now, you don’t have to give your name if you don’t want to. Also, they may ask for your address so Rep. Wu can write you back. You don’t have to give that out, either (just politely say, “no thanks, I just wanted to express my opinion.”)
