So I bought the hype from AMERICAblog about “DC Bulldog (8+ cut)” being on some show I’ve never heard of on a network I never watch. This show’s premise is that it sets up a conflict and then has the object of that conflict take a polygraph test to prove his/her guilt or innocence.
So Rolonda Watts, the host, sits down with Jimmy/Jeff and gives a condensed, very “puff” background on Guckert/Gannon, virtually ignoring all the tawdry prostitution angles and any real questions about Gannon in favor of just one question:
Was “Jeff Gannon” fed questions by the Bush administration to use as talking points at White House briefings?
To which he answers, “No,” of course, and passes the lie detector. Sheesh. Nothing about special access, lack of credentials, gay hooker past, contacts in the White House, extra visits to the White House when there were no press conferences, or anything else of meaningful substance.
Even though it is very easy to fool a polygraph physiologically (drugs, meditation techniques) or psychologically (you’re a psychopath or you truly believe your lie), I actually believe Bulldog’s answer. I don’t think the White House directly fed scripted questions to Gannon any more than the Kerry campaign directly fed me scripted blog posts to use against Bush.
But did the White House work with Bobby Eberle of Texas to set up a sham newsfront website and grant special access to the White House (in violation of post-9/11 security protocol) for a former male prostitute who was encouraged to come up with questions on his own that would make the Bush Administration look good? That’s the question.
