MSNBC – Wolfowitz tapped to lead World Bank
So Bush now wants to put King of the Neo-Cons in charge of the World Bank, eh? Sure, sure, that’s a great decision. After all, Wolfowitz’s honest appraisal and clear judgment about Iraq have shown him to be a brilliant policy wonk:
Wolfowitz was among the most forceful of those in the Bush administration in arguing that Iraq’s Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, and he had predicted that Americans would be welcomed as liberators rather than occupiers once they toppled Saddam’s government.
Oh, yeah, well there’s that.
Actually, it makes sense. Rice was national security advisor when America suffered its biggest security lapse ever, so she got a promotion. Tenet was Director of Central Intelligence when that agency suffered its two biggest intelligence lapses, so he got a Medal of Freedom. Bremer disbanded the Iraqi army, leaving Iraq free for looting and chaos, and couldn’t account for a missing $9 billion, so he got a medal, too. Why shouldn’t Wolfowitz get a little promotion for his failures as well?
