> Personally, I find Hummers to be nauseating and can see no earthly reason whatsoever for the need.
Aside from people living in the backwoods of Minnesota, yeah, I agree. But even beyond that, I can’t see the appeal. They look like a Volvo on steroids. (Heh heh. Volvo. Hummer. Heh heh.) A big, boxy, ugly car that you can’t easily park anywhere, costs $60K, and gets 8 MPG on $2/gallon gasoline? Gee, where do I sign up?
> …the new Toyota Prius hybrid vehicles.
That’s the car I want! Up to 52 MPG! And it’s got a 11.9 gallon fuel tank. So for about $24, you could fill up and drive from Portland, OR, to San Francisco, CA (or pretty darn close, anyway. Maybe you’d have to get a little gas in Marin County somewhere.) All the while feeling good that you’re not smogging up the environment and that you’re getting a $2,000 tax deduction. Meanwhile, for the guy in the Hummer, that $24 will get him from Portland to Corvallis, OR.
“Radical” Russ — not surprising that finding the MPG on the Prius at toyota.com was a couple of clicks away, but the MPG info at hummer.com does not seem to exist…
And here I am, replying to myself, because I found a couple of other little MPG factoids. First, the Hummer H2 has improved its MPG to 10-13 MPG. So, on a good day, that $24 will get you from Portland to Eugene.
Second, did you know that the highest MPG on the 2003 Ford product line is 36 MPG. The highest MPG on their 1913 product line? 35 MPG.
“Radical” Russ — Hummers, bad, hummers, good!…
