By 2017, working independently had taken its toll. While I have plenty of energy, creativity, and skill for producing content, I lack those qualities when it comes to selling it. Unable to keep 420RADIO afloat and struggling to keep my show alive, I decided to re-brand my show as The Marijuana Agenda. By shifting to a stricter focus on marijuana-only content, I had the hope of securing content agreements with major national drug policy orgs.
Alas, it was not to be, perhaps because I had so successfully branded myself as an independent “radical.” By August of 2018, I stopped performing some form of live radio show for the first time in eleven years. During the layoff, my partner Lori and I set our sights on first building our nationally-recognized Delta-9 House in Portland, one of America’s first cannabis-friendly Airbnb’s, then on two Boise Hempworld retail shops, while also operating The Coughie Pot cannabis dispensary in Eastern Oregon.
