A list friend of mine writes:
Here is a challenge for everyone. Go visit the DNC web site and then the RNC web site. Are there any differences that stick out in your mind other than the obvious one? I’d love to hear everyone else’s thoughts on this. I found the one glaring difference to be quite telling.
The difference I found is this — I viewed the HTML source of each website’s main page and counted the occurances of the words “Bush” and Kerry”. This count includes links and HTML code, so something like “kerryflops.htm” or “bush/top10lies.jpg” would be included:
Words in HTML "Kerry" "Bush"
DEMOCRATS.ORG 14 17
GOP.COM 47 4
This doesn’t surprise me at all. After all, what is the GOP supposed to do, advertise Bush’s record? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
So I looked a little closer, analyzing the graphic design. How many times would I see Bush’s or Kerry’s face on either website?
Pictures "Kerry" "Bush" "Ronald Reagan"
DEMOCRATS.ORG 1 0 0
GOP.COM 4 2 1
About the only thing the GOP website hasn’t done is PhotoShopped a beret on Kerry’s head, a baguette under his arm, and that black-and-white striped mime shirt on his body.
Then I thought, hmm, why limit this to the RNC and DNC sites? I performed the same analysis of johnkerry.com and georgewbush.com. The word analysis is fairly useless, since it would count any URL on johnkerry or georgewbush. But the picture count shows:
Pictures "Kerry" "Bush" "Bill Clinton"
JOHNKERRY.COM 7 1 1
GEORGEWBUSH.COM 1 1 0
“Radical” Russ — was that what you were looking for?…
