So we all got to see Janet’s boob during the Super Bowl halftime. MTV and Justin are all saying it was an accident and unintentional. Right. I guess Janet wears pasties on her boobs underneath all of her outfits. Maybe all Janet’s outfits are accidentally built to easily rip apart. Maybe the choreography was accidentally produced so Janet would be standing with her arms down, chest exposed, so Justin could easily reach the rip-away portion of her outfit. Maybe the line Justin sings right before the rip — “I’m gonna have you naked by the end of this song” — was an accident, too.
Or maybe Britney’s ex-boyfriend and Madonna’s chief rival felt they needed to outdo the famous lesbian kiss scene from the MTV awards.
MTV apologized today after pop star Janet Jackson “unintentionally” exposed her right breast during a half-time performance at the Super Bowl.
Jackson’s leather bustier was ripped during a duet with Justin Timberlake, watched by a crowd of 72,000 at the Reliant Stadium in Houston and an estimated 100 million viewers worldwide.
MTV, which produced the show for sister network CBS, apologized shortly after the Carolina Panthers-New England Patriots game and insisted the incident was “completely unintentional”.
It appeared that Timberlake ripped Jackson’s outfit as he reached out to her, revealing her breast with what appeared to be a sun-shaped silver nipple ring.
In a statement, MTV said: “The tearing of Janet Jackson’s costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional and was inconsistent with assurances we had about the content of the performance.
“MTV regrets this incident occurred and we apologise to anyone who was offended by it.”
Timberlake also issued an apology for the “regrettable” incident, MTV News reported.
He said: “I am sorry if anyone was offended by the wardrobe malfunction during the halftime performance at the Super Bowl.
“It was not intentional and is regrettable.”
I guess I’m not the only one who didn’t think it was an accident…
WASHINGTON, D.C. Federal Communications Commission chairman Michael Powell said today he is launching an investigation into the halftime show aired on CBS last night during the Super Bowl after singer Janet Jackson’s right breast was exposed.
The incident occurred at the end of Jackson’s performance with singer Justin Timberlake. After singing the words, “I’m gonna have you naked by the end of this song,” Timberlake reached over and pulled off the material covering Jackson’s breast to reveal a metal nipple decoration.
“I am outraged at what I saw during the halftime show of the Super Bowl,” Powell said in a statement today. “Like millions of Americans, my family and I gathered around the television for a celebration. Instead, that celebration was tainted by a classless, crass and deplorable stunt. Our nation’s children, parents and citizens deserve better. ”
A CBS representative said, “CBS deeply regrets the incident,” after the network received calls about the halftime show. The show, which also featured P. Diddy, Nelly and Kid Rock, was produced by MTV, which, like CBS, is part of Viacom.
Powell has ordered the investigation at a time when Congress is considering legislation that would increase the fines a station faces for indecent broadcasts to $275,000 per incident from the current $27,500. “Our investigation will be thorough and swift,” Powell said.
