I’m not surprised by the local news media hyping this story. My hometown of Nampa, Idaho, is in the conservative county of the Boise Metro Area, and when you’re considered conservative compared to Boise, that’s saying something.
Nampa Man’s Wife In Similar Condition As Was Terri Schiavo*
NAMPA – Ever since she was hit by a drunk driver almost 19 years ago, Michael Harn’s wife, Rose, is a quadriplegic who suffers brain stem damage and can only communicate by blinking her eyes for yes and shaking her head for no.
Then she is not in a similar condition to she whose name I will not type anymore! “Brain stem” and “cerebral cortex” are not the same thing. Even after my Nampa High School public edcuation Biology class in 9th grade I could tell you that. Furthermore, if she can communicate at all, she is not in a similar condition to she whose tragedy was exploited by the Republicans in Congress.
Harn says he’s now concerned somebody — somewhere — could order Rose’s feeding tube removed.
“Well, if they can do that to somebody in Rose’s condition, or Terri Schiavo’s condition they can do that to just about anybody, shut em off, let em starve,” Harn told Local 2 News.
“You have a good life, don’t you?” Harn asks Rose, who blinks yes. ” Well, it’s not like she wanted it to be,” Harn tells us, “but she loves life. She has fun and she gets to see the grandkids and go places.”
Again, no, Mr. Inappropriate Analogy. You are her husband. You want to keep her on a feeding tube. She’s not unresponsive. She communicates her will to live in this state. Case closed.
Bonus Irony:
“Life goes on,” he said. “There’s always the hope someday there could be a cure for what happened to her. With stem cell research, there’s a chance she could be normal again.”
I wonder how many anti-stem cell research candidates you supported in the 2004 election, Mr. Harn?
*This one doesn’t count. I didn’t type it, I cut-and-pasted it.
