In the wake of this Karl Rove / Valerie Plame investigation, it should be noted that Judith Miller of the New York Times is currently in jail because she won’t reveal her confidential source (Karl Rove?) to the federal grand jury.
49 states currently have what are called “Shield Laws” that protect journalists against this sort of prosecution. It allows a reporter to keep his confidential sources confidential. It is the kind of immunity that allowed Woodward and Bernstein to protect “Deep Throat” (W. Mark Felt) during the Watergate investigations that ultimately uncovered Nixon’s shenanigans in the White House.
Urge your congressman and senators to support the Federal Shield Laws that are currently before them — Rep. Pence’s (R-IN) & Rep. Boucher’s (D-VA) HR 581, Sen. Lugar’s (R-IN) S 340, and Sen. Dodd’s (D-CT) S 369. How this relates to the Valerie Plame case.
