Our Opening Act had quite a journey from his birthplace in Japan to the country music stages of Branson, Missouri. Shoji Tabuchi was born in 1944 and began playing violin at age 7. While in college, he saw Roy Acuff in concert, and caught the bluegrass bug. He formed a bluegrass band in Japan, won a national contest, and made his way to Nashville in the mid-1960s, where Acuff got him onstage at the Grand Ole Opry. Fast-forward to 1990 and he had built his own theater in Branson, performing the popular Shoji Tabuchi Show for the next two decades. Tabuchi passed on August 11th, concluding his battle with pancreatic cancer.
