Finally! After two years and two months hiatus, I will be resuming my semi-professional music career. I’ve been playing in bands, orchestras, and combos since the age of eleven, but my last pro gig was New Years Eve of 2002, the night before Iva and I moved here to Portland. Since arriving, I have yet to perform for pay onstage, though I have attended a couple of jam sessions and sat in with a couple of groups as a guest.
My co-worker at Welch Allyn is a keyboardist named Graham. (I love the name of his original band: “Graham & the Crackers”.) He performs in a classic rock cover band called “The Modulators” and just the other day he told me they were in need of a bass player. One audition later and yours truly is back in business.
They will be performing tonight from 7PM-10PM at the Dublin Pub, 6821 Beaverton Hillsdale Highway, Portland, OR. I’ll be there to check out their setlist, then come March, I’ll be onstage with them. Maybe I’ll see you there sometime.
I’ve already got the bumper sticker and T-shirt idea: The Modulators… do it with frequency! (Thanks to my physician, Dr. Harry Barry, for that one. Seriously, the man’s name is Harold Barry.)
