A good time was had by all and I learned a new lesson: don’t believe everything you read on the internet!
For the entire week preceding this concert, I had my eye on all the weather reports. When you’ve got thousands of dollars of electronic equipment and a bunch of people onstage, the last thing you want is wind and especially rain. So all forecasts told us: 60% chance of thunderstorms, bad storm moving into the area, certainly we’ll get some rain, the question in only “how much”.
Not a drop. Nice day, in fact. Highs in the 70’s. A little cloudy, but mostly calm. Beautiful day for a parade and an outdoor concert/BBQ. We decided to set up inside the night before, when it was looking like rain.
But it was a great show nonetheless. The facility at The Olde School is awesome. Big stage, big dance floor, lots of room for seating, a huge mezzanine overlooking the dance floor, comfortable tables and booths, and many other rooms to get away from the loud music and set up at the bar (they have a full liquor license). They are currently renting rooms for special occasions, and for just that short drive to St. Helens, you can have a facility that would cost $2,000-$3,000 in Portland for about half that or less! Musicians – they have a school for music lessons and rentable rehearsal space in the basement. If you want any info on The Olde School, send me an e-mail and I’ll get you in touch with the owners.
I’ll have some pictures up from the gig as soon as I get my hands on them. All the bands were really enjoyed by the sizeable crowd who hung around all day, wandering in and out, and getting on the dance floor to shake some afternoon “two-things” (ask my wife) to four hours of excellent music from three of the area’s best bands.
