These are the “smoking gun” tapes that help prove that Enron purposefully manipulated the California energy market to gouge customers and create “rolling blackouts”. Here’s just some snippets for your enjoyment:
When a forest fire shut down a major transmission line into California, cutting power supplies and raising prices, Enron energy traders celebrated… “Burn, baby, burn. That’s a beautiful thing,” a trader sang about the massive fire.
Before the 2000 election, Enron employees pondered the possibilities of a Bush win…. “When this election comes Bush will f——g whack this s–t, man. He won’t play this price-cap b——t.”
“We will not take any action that makes California’s problems worse and that’s why I oppose price caps,” said Mr. Bush on May 29, 2001.
So while Californian’s were in the dark, trapped in elevators, or sweltering without air conditioning in the summer heat, Bush’s best buddy, “Kenny Boy” Lay was stealing electricity and money from Californians. “Kenny Boy” was so nice as to donate thousands of dollars and a private company jet to the Bush Election campaign, so it appears his money was well-spent.
Is it any wonder why Cheney doesn’t want to release the details of his secret energy-policy meetings to the public?
