There was a fantastic turnout on 6th Street for the No Kings Day protest in Grants Pass, Oregon. Protestors lined the block in front of the Josephine County Courthouse.
This was a far smaller turnout than two weeks ago in Medford at the Hands Off protest. But Grants Pass is a smaller city in a smaller county. Jackson County (Medford) holds nearly two-and-a-half times the voters as Josephine County (Grants Pass).
Josephine County is also far more MAGA. Trump only won Jackson County with 52% of the vote, but took Josephine County with 63%. Which may explain why one MAGA felt emboldened enough to strut through the protest with three “TRUMP WON” signs.
We also had the obligatory appearance by the graphic anti-abortion protestor. You know the type, yelling through a megaphone that abortion is murder while displaying a gruesome photo of an aborted fetus. I finally got the chance to ask him the question that’s always bothered me about him: are you a necrophilic pedophile?
Given Grants Pass’s small size and MAGA leanings, a turnout that filled the entire block and spilled over to the other side is quite remarkable. Also notable is how the protest in Medford was bereft of police presence, while Grants Pass made sure to have a pair of cops at both ends of the protest.
