Because I couldn’t find one anywhere that just gave me the damn data I was looking for without a whole bunch of video of the songs, paragraphs of filler material, and a metric shit-ton of pop-up ads, I decided to curate one myself. All because Matthew Perry went and died and I looked up “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts on Wikipedia and then started thinking, I wonder if that’s the last TV theme song to have made the pop charts? See? See what my brain makes me do?
And yes, it appears, at least according to my research, that “I’ll Be There For You” by The Rembrandts was the last American TV theme song to make it to the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #17 in 1995. If you can find a 21st century American TV theme that’s made the charts (and not a song from the charts that became a TV theme, like The Who’s songs for the CSI shows), let me know!
