Like the Hall of Fame that bears its name, for me Rock’n’Roll is a catch-all category for the the music that influences me. I played music professionally for fifteen years and I’m the son of a professional musician, so I have many opinions on the subject.
It seems this week the ethereal orchestra needed some percussion, because the Reaper picked off four drummers from America, England, and South Africa. We’ve also got international artists from Norway, Lebanon, and India, and for classical fans, some piano and harpsichord.
The Reaper took it a bit easy this week, so we’ve got artists from the entire month of September to catch up on, including singers from Austria, Israel, and Cuba, a bassist, a trumpeter, and a flautist from the USA, and musicians from Australia and Austin, Texas. You’ll also hear from our headliner, the lead vocalist from the 60s group The Association.
This week the Reaper has selected for us classic girl group singers, hardcore American punks, some jazz-fusion funk, and an international lineup from England, Belgium, Croatia, and the Dominican Republic, bookended with mellow country from both sides of the pond.
Last week, the Reaper overdid it by taking from us three headline acts. This week, we return to our world tour of the obscure, including rap from Mexico and Nigeria, American ska, English country-rock, a triple shot of jazz, some Christian Rock, and pop singers from the Czech Republic, Turkey, India, and France.
Some weeks the Reaper takes us on a trip into the obscure. This week is definitely not one of those. The Reaper was busy Labor Day Weekend and took from us an All Star, a Dream Weaver, and the King of the Parrotheads, each of whom could be our headliner.
It’s Labor Day Weekend and the Grim Reaper is ushering in Back to School season by taking the game show host you watched staying home from school. We’ve got backing musicians, producers, and songwriters from some of the biggest acts in the US and UK, as well as international acts from Trinidad, Sweden, Nigeria, and Brazil.
Summer’s almost over and this week the Reaper has brings us some oldies, some soul, and some metal from America; pop music from Canada, Belgium, and Slovakia; and traditional music from Italy, Argentina, and Iran.
This week the Reaper has chosen an eclectic lineup from Australia, Belgium, India, Greece, Italy, Puerto Rico, Spain, Sweden, and France, sandwiched between American artists to open and close the show.
This week, the leader of The Band has passed, the keyboardist for The Kinks has crossed over, and the DJ behind the Cha Cha Slide has up and died. We’ve also got a pioneer in psychedelic rock, a forgotten singer/songwriter with a miraculous second act, and musicians from around the world.
This week we go on a Big Adventure, with musicians from Belgium, Italy, Greece, Kenya, Brazil, Sudan, France, and Romania. We also feature Americans who span the genres of soul, jazz, and death metal. And this week, the Reaper took a little piece of our childhood in our Headliner, actor Paul Reubens, [“I know you are but what am I”], who played the adorable Pee-wee Herman.
On today’s Main Stage, we feature three artists from the United States, including the bass player from Edie Brickell & the New Bohemians, and American dance DJ, and one of the founding members of the rock band Journey. Then on the Festival Stage, we bring you a trio of bossa nova and jazz performers from Brazil. Coming up on the International Stage, two singers from England and a Punjabi singer from India. And of course our Headliner today is Irish pop superstar Sinéad O’Connor.
